Chink e-readers are a thing but it's such a small market they don't _really_ bother
E-ink is expensive to produce and they make it back by locking you into a book ecosystem or a smartwatch ecosystem
I think there was a couple models before but Kindles were better deals
A company that wants to make e-readers can just make chink tablets and phones instead

I used to use a kobo mini, so did my dad, but both our screens broke, like the corners bled out onto the rest of the screen
They do sell refurbished Kindles on Ali but a used one might be better
