According to nicehash calculator this will give you 8$ per month without counting electricity

Had no idea people were dumb enough to actually try mining themselves
That's 8 dollars a month assuming the value doesn't increase?
It's not going to increase anytime soon
I'm not doing it for profits.
Just want a hobby to mess around with.
Not actually going to invest anything serious into it,
And might just re-sell it as a ready-made kit for someone like me looking for a pet project eventually.
It's not really a hobby if you just turn it on and mine.
I'm going to mine a wide variety of coins,
It can mine any Scrypt algorithm-based coin.
So Litecoin, Megacoin, Dogecoin, Belacoin and Novacoin.
If I wanted real profits I'd just buy crypto coins directly.
Weren't you going to get into model trains?
I ran into a problem.
Renting out an apartment,
Landlord forbids running power tools larger than a cordless drill.
I'd need a half-sized lathe to begin producing metal parts, and without it, I might as well just buy an already-made engine and say it's a "hobby", but where's the fun in that?

I know, I know,
How would he even enforce that?
If it's a safety concern buying a mining machine is probably more a hazard
Not a safety concern.
The thing's loud as hell,
Especially when machining metal,
He doesn't want noise complaints.
Oh, it is pretty loud.
The problem is, the motor itself is very quiet, but the squealing you get when machining aluminum breaches 85 decibels, and after 85 decibels hearing damage can occur, and while I have protection, neighbors can file a noise complaint because it's MUCH higher than the allowed noise here.
So sadly it seems for the time-being, or until I move elsewhere, model trains are out of my reach.
Why not take up carving?
Quiet and you learn knife skills.
Actually, I used to do a bit of woodturning, but once never really liked carving.
