the problem was the actual ESP8266 chip had plenty of IO ports
but most of the breakouts didnt provide them
@Lj4IW9hY3JmTwb looks comfy
like both of these use the same chip
i like the wemos d1 series
ye those are pretty neat
going for the same stackable shield design as arduino uno
wemos started with something new now, x-series or something
seems neat af
that seems overpriced
esp32 should be ~$5 and about the same for the neopixel ring
the other parts are pennies
oh wait are those tiny displays
yeah, 2.9inch
because i didnt have enough to do already im attempting to build my own dual channel variable power supply
after i found a neat toroidal transformer for it
two 30V 4A coils and one 12V 0.5A coil
You can do 6 inch or 9.7 inch, but you need to roll your own controller
waveshare has a 7"
comes with a rpi hat, but can also be controlled by spi
>63$
whoa
do you guys make your own PCBs and if so which EDA software
pencil+paper
which chinese boardhouse accepts that :^)
or do you etch it yourself
rip one from a kindle and reveng the protocol
I've been using kicad and will probably end up with some $5 chinese board house because they can outperform anything i'll manage to pull off
etching seems doable but soldermask (and silkscreen but less essential) seem near impossible
Main disadvantage of a chineese board house is that you have to wait a month to get your boards. Also soldermask is doable with UV-resist.
waiting a month isn't really a problem
i saw some videos on people applying soldermask and it seems near impossible to get an even layer and spread it to all corners
I wonder if it would be worth making group buys with the gizchina b2b service
Depends how much you trust yourself or other people not to fuck you iver
cant trust anybody, not even your family
