Harbor Freight has nice knockoffs. I like the foam better at first glance than the Pelican stuff, because it comes in layers. Apache 1800/2800 and Pelican 1520 pictured. I think they were like $15/$30 for the Apaches

ooo ooo

2018-05-16 09:38:49 UTC

There's a third, larger size. I think it's around half the difference between the 2800 and 1520

2018-05-16 09:38:56 UTC

nice

2018-05-16 09:39:14 UTC

sadly i bet i cant get them in europe

2018-05-16 09:39:31 UTC

Probably not without paying an arm and a dick for shipping.

2018-05-16 09:39:34 UTC

cheap strongboxes are fucking hard to come by around here

2018-05-16 09:40:02 UTC

I mean, check www.harborfreight.com, maybe it's not terrible.

2018-05-16 09:41:01 UTC

I'm curious, are ratchets pretty much 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive world-wide?

2018-05-16 09:42:08 UTC

I'd assume so, something basic like that isn't really worth making two sets of sizes for.

2018-05-16 09:45:26 UTC

fucking worst part is

2018-05-16 09:45:36 UTC

all of the things have "precut" holes in them apparently

2018-05-16 09:46:03 UTC

The fucking annoying part is that the foam is the expensive part.

2018-05-16 09:46:23 UTC

Why is foam so expensive?

2018-05-16 09:46:24 UTC

funnily enough its not even that expensive

2018-05-16 09:46:32 UTC

It's just polyeurethane.

2018-05-16 09:46:36 UTC

companies just like to jack up prices for "trademark tm foam" stuff

2018-05-16 09:46:41 UTC

$35 I think for the foam for the Pelican. I needed to replace mine, it was cut out for some Fluke instrument

2018-05-16 09:46:59 UTC

yeah its just "their foam"

2018-05-16 09:47:31 UTC

@nitrokojote Printer ink model I suppose. It's the fancy pick-and-pluck precut stuff.

2018-05-16 09:47:48 UTC

Sounds about right

2018-05-16 09:47:52 UTC

Same deal with razors, actually.

2018-05-16 09:48:00 UTC

Buy a razor, comes with two blades for $8

2018-05-16 09:48:07 UTC

You're good, moment you need replacements

2018-05-16 09:48:10 UTC

give me $30

2018-05-16 09:48:24 UTC

Switch to safety razors.

2018-05-16 09:48:46 UTC

Better shave and cheaper blades. I spend $25/100

2018-05-16 09:49:01 UTC

"expensive" aint the right word

2018-05-16 09:49:08 UTC

thing expensive with the foams is = storage

2018-05-16 09:49:12 UTC

they take a lot of space

2018-05-16 09:49:12 UTC

I wouldn't mind getting a strongbox to carry my laptop or other fragile electronics and shit if I was travelling

2018-05-16 09:49:15 UTC

and space == costs a lot

2018-05-16 09:49:26 UTC

Ahh

2018-05-16 09:49:54 UTC

thats why "market foam" costs so much when its their "special magic unicorn powder edition"

2018-05-16 09:49:59 UTC

even if its same stuff as everyone else

2018-05-16 09:51:09 UTC

I'm curious what the production process is. I assume it's just extruded and stamped. Storage space isn't reeeally going to make it cost that much, because it's smaller and more expensive than the ottoman I got(the flesheating one from a couple threads back)

2018-05-16 09:51:29 UTC

It's just Pelican=brandbucks.

2018-05-16 09:51:39 UTC

pretty much

2018-05-16 09:51:48 UTC

but i bet pelican does not make their own foam

2018-05-16 09:51:57 UTC

soo they have some storages somewhere
