drill bits?

2018-05-22 21:24:00 UTC

or solder lol

2018-05-22 21:24:33 UTC

Drills and a soldering kit

2018-05-22 21:24:43 UTC

Gotta practice, not great. All SMD.

2018-05-22 21:25:10 UTC

And more labelmaker tape, of course.

2018-05-22 21:26:54 UTC

Drills seem good, wasn't sure how they'd be, chink HSS stuff is really hit-or-miss. Haven't used them yet though.

2018-05-22 21:27:14 UTC

Ive heard thier carbide is good for smaller stuff

2018-05-22 21:27:40 UTC

Yeah

2018-05-22 21:28:06 UTC

If it's sold as electronics stuff, it's all made there anyways

2018-05-22 21:29:04 UTC

And carbide is less of an involved process. Make a mold and heat it up. HSS has some processes involved. So the gap between good and bad is a lot smaller for carbide than HSS.

2018-05-22 21:30:36 UTC

I'm almost questioning if my drill press has little enough run-out to even use these tiny ones. It's good, but it's also good for being a 5/8 chuck, so that might still be too much for these.

2018-05-22 21:32:07 UTC

I'll try the 2mm in a hand drill and report back.

2018-05-22 21:32:25 UTC

Order a chinkshit dial indicator, friend

2018-05-22 21:33:16 UTC

Have one, can't remember what it got.

2018-05-22 21:33:23 UTC

Fuck it, I'll check.

2018-05-22 21:37:48 UTC

HSS needs heat treatment. Carbide is a less involving process for sure

2018-05-22 21:50:08 UTC

Ha, nevermind, should be fine, 4 thou at around 3.5"

2018-05-22 21:56:21 UTC

Yeah, drills work well. Good buy, 10/10

2018-05-22 21:58:36 UTC

Now much did they cost compared to resharpened bits?

2018-05-22 22:01:52 UTC

For those sizes, you don't sharpen, you replace.

2018-05-22 22:02:27 UTC

But $3.88 I think.

2018-05-22 22:02:56 UTC

That labelmaker tape was $3.75, solder kit was $2.14.

2018-05-22 22:03:00 UTC

I think there are companies that buy used drill bits from CNC companies and sharpen them.

2018-05-22 22:03:34 UTC

Also tfw not enough money to buy everything you want from china.

2018-05-22 22:04:17 UTC

Eh, maybe in bulk, but I don't think those are the ones getting sold to consumers. People don't want used drills, even though they're fine, but you can make that pitch to customers who know what's what.

2018-05-22 22:04:43 UTC

But even then, I can't see anything that small being worth it. Past 1/4" maybe.

2018-05-22 22:06:17 UTC

Not china and kinda shady but google gave me https://drillcity.stores.yahoo.net/restool.html

2018-05-22 22:06:51 UTC

I don't know enough about drill bits to know how large those are.
