It doesn't tell me shit. There are hundreds of models of parts. They make their money by making a margin using shit parts.

2018-09-02 00:00:00 UTC

uhh

2018-09-02 00:00:09 UTC

Also bulk pricing when they buy. But mostly both.

2018-09-02 00:00:33 UTC

600w psu for the $1,575 and 550 for the $1,400

2018-09-02 00:01:07 UTC

That doesn't mean anything.

2018-09-02 00:01:15 UTC

you asked for the psus

2018-09-02 00:01:15 UTC
2018-09-02 00:01:47 UTC

what exactly do you mean by shitty parts

2018-09-02 00:01:51 UTC

anyway

2018-09-02 00:02:33 UTC

Prices for DIY vs prebuilt are so close, if you don't know the model number on every part in the prebuilt, just assume they used shitty parts. DIY is a couple hours and a single screwdriver type project, anyone can manage, and you'll get a much higher quality computer for it.

2018-09-02 00:04:35 UTC

Shitty parts like a smaller heatsink that won't keep temps down as well, so your parts fail earlier, a cheap motherboard that might have a capacitor pop in a couple years immediately after the warranty ends, an inefficient power supply that draws 800w from the wall to supply you with 500w to the PC, fans that have bearings go bad in a few months and start making noise, a more flimsy case

2018-09-02 00:04:39 UTC

lets hypothetically assume that these are all good parts

2018-09-02 00:04:47 UTC

should i buy?

2018-09-02 00:05:47 UTC

If they're all good parts, yeah, might as well, you're spending a few bucks to have someone save you a couple hours.

2018-09-02 00:07:20 UTC

aight thanks

2018-09-02 00:08:09 UTC

no disrespect but I think you're overworrying, these seem pretty good and they're from newegg.. ive seen shittier pre-builts on ebay

2018-09-02 00:08:20 UTC

those were more expensive too

2018-09-02 00:09:33 UTC

Yeah, it's not a huge problem, but they're objectively worse. PSU is the biggest issue, low efficiency means more heat, which leads to things throttling and slowing down. Plus you pay more over time.

2018-09-02 00:10:52 UTC

Plus it's the only part that can fail and physically damage the rest of the parts. Just make sure it's at least an 80 Plus rated one. That means a 3rd party testing place verified they're at least 80% efficient, which usually they won't bother for with shit ones.

2018-09-02 00:11:42 UTC

If you've got a buddy who can help, just ask if you can pay him $50 to build one for you.

2018-09-02 00:12:03 UTC

ok

2018-09-02 00:12:08 UTC

sounds good, thanks

boy i love when a seller offers multiple sizes but give the fucking outer dimensions of the entire thing and not how big of a dick each one will fit
