do you want to run existing applications -> dont use arm

2018-09-08 15:27:59 UTC

as only intel/amd can make x86 chips

2018-09-08 15:28:05 UTC

acutally i guess via/zhaoxin

2018-09-08 15:28:08 UTC

but eh

2018-09-08 15:28:21 UTC

and they're all focused on servers atm

2018-09-08 15:29:54 UTC

isnt kryonaut conductive though

2018-09-08 15:30:14 UTC

```
no electrical conductivity!!!```
2018-09-08 15:30:16 UTC
🤔
2018-09-08 15:30:23 UTC
maybe im thinking of liquid metal (tm)
2018-09-08 15:30:32 UTC
@bentech I thought so yeah but now we have 6w intel Am I correct in the assumption that ARM is better for low powered chips then? @Goz3rr Yeah but it cannot possibly be that simple or intel and arm tablets wouldn't be competing at the same price level
2018-09-08 15:30:52 UTC
again biggest issue is implementation
2018-09-08 15:31:06 UTC
reason arm is better for low powered is most of the implementations so far have been for low powered applications
2018-09-08 15:31:31 UTC
while x86 implementations are largely focused on servers/sometimes laptops
2018-09-08 15:31:45 UTC
you have seen some very low powered x86 stuff though
2018-09-08 15:31:50 UTC
thanks gearbest
2018-09-08 15:31:57 UTC
e.g the asus x86 zen phone
2018-09-08 15:31:57 UTC
So x86 is generally better though less developed in low power applications than ARM, do I get that right? @bentech
2018-09-08 15:32:04 UTC
it's not generally better
2018-09-08 15:32:05 UTC
it's just different
2018-09-08 15:32:37 UTC
Well... ARM was ditched in consumer usage for a reason until smartphones surfaced, or not? @bentech
2018-09-08 15:32:46 UTC
used in some stuff
2018-09-08 15:32:47 UTC
see DS
2018-09-08 15:32:51 UTC
err
2018-09-08 15:33:03 UTC
etc
2018-09-08 15:33:04 UTC
ARM is in more consumer shit than you think
2018-09-08 15:33:07 UTC
yteah
2018-09-08 15:33:19 UTC
basically every piece of electronics will have an ARM based microprocessor
2018-09-08 15:33:20 UTC
it's used in lots of microcontrollers now isn't it?
2018-09-08 15:33:21 UTC
My bad, I should have said personal computing
Smart household devices
2018-09-08 15:34:04 UTC
in personal computing the only other arch with limited success was powerpc (IBM)
2018-09-08 15:34:15 UTC
@Sdeck37 nice sunny avatar
2018-09-08 15:34:22 UTC
All that experimental shit had arm long before smartphones
2018-09-08 15:35:00 UTC
actually late dumb phones prob had arm
2018-09-08 15:35:13 UTC
``` It was the first GSM phone to use an ARM processor.[1]```

Allright, personal computing then. wasn't point of the discussion @bentech
