Anything I should look for or avoid when shopping for a big desk mat/mouse pad?

when I got mine there was a chemical smell and made my hands itch

I washed it with some soap

and it was better

My worry with the thin ones is that if I move it around my desk, when I put it back in place, I'll have it stretched weird and it'll feel off or something weird like that. Is yours fairly stiff like a thicker one? My current Razer is THICC and stiff, and I don't have to worry about stretching stuff weird even if I'm moving it with heavier stuff on top.
