well it is done. The parliament has rejected the government's financing plan. The government has now fallen, elections are imminent

1 & 7: Those deals are made from scrap, the UK already has trade deals through the EU though, most countries will just accept the current deals the UK has trough the EU: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-47196636

2 & 3: Fortunately the WTO has a well established procedure for when a Member decides to walk back something they previously promised to do (or in WTO terms ‘modify a concession’). This procedure is called GATT Article XXVIII. While theoretically capable of producing any result, the Article XXVIII process is actually fairly tame.
The most a Member could possibly hope to get out of Article XXVIII is the difference between the UK’s new quota, and the EU’s previous total quota. https://www.explaintrade.com/blogs/2018/11/22/uk-wto-schedules-whats-going-on-now

4: The EU can declare the area of Nothern Ireland a border region, thus removing the need of a hard border: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/obscure-provision-may-permit-open-border-if-no-deal-brexit-1.3505856

5 & 6: Even for the few states that might not accept the current EU deal, it will only be untill a new deal is accepted. There are few Brexiteers who claim that it would be positive economically short term.

The reason for WTO terms is that the EU will realise that they also need the UK for stuff like medicine, so they too will be forced to make a deal that is both positive for the UK and EU. https://nos.nl/artikel/2270787-levering-50-onmisbare-geneesmiddelen-onzeker-bij-no-deal-brexit.html (50 unmissable medicines unsure with no deal brexit).

sweet jesus my comp sci professor is another champaigne socialist

2019-02-13 23:29:31 UTC

talking about wealth inequality and how unfair it is that CEO's get so much money

2019-02-13 23:29:34 UTC

REEEEE

2019-02-13 23:30:40 UTC

what has wealth inequality to do with comp sci?

2019-02-13 23:35:06 UTC

he felt like complaining during the break between the lecture and the lab

2019-02-13 23:35:28 UTC

its the lab right now, and he's making a point to use gender neutral pronouns

2019-02-13 23:35:42 UTC

"he or she, or the gender neutral they rather"

2019-02-13 23:35:45 UTC

ugh

2019-02-13 23:36:11 UTC

they've infiltrated the fucking stem fields already guys

2019-02-13 23:44:42 UTC

he referenced the french revolution and how "King louis said let them eat cake". So can't even attribute made up quotes to the correct people. Said "the people would rise up" etc. So I said to him "worked pretty great in russia and china, right?"

2019-02-13 23:44:48 UTC

I sit right next to his desk

2019-02-13 23:46:02 UTC

"that's what? 100 million dead if you combine them all?" so he responds with "well that's cause they killed the people who disagree, nowadays we just arrest them"

2019-02-13 23:46:48 UTC

quickly deflected to talking about debtors prison in england right after he said that, cause I was about to push him to clarify what he really meant by that

2019-02-14 02:26:31 UTC

Did he say king Louis? Because that was Marie Antoinette

2019-02-14 02:26:59 UTC

It wasn't even Marie Antoinette

2019-02-14 02:27:26 UTC

A historical myth then?

2019-02-14 02:27:27 UTC

thus the "can't even attribute made up quotes to the correct people"

2019-02-14 02:27:46 UTC

Like the cherry tree and being incapable of telling lies at five?

2019-02-14 02:28:49 UTC

It was propaganda made up to shame her, according to some historians, but there is no record of anyone near her nor of any historical record at the time of her saying the quote in question

2019-02-14 02:30:42 UTC

Interesting. That actually makes a lot of sense.
