@ottovfrankfurt So the primary purpose of comtacs isn't ear pro, it's situational awareness and communications.
They compress loud noises but if there is constant gunfire or droning, it'll cut out incoming voice

They also amplify quiet sounds

thats what i had always thought given my experience with other powered ear pro but I have never used comtacs

the ear pro part is just barely enough so you're not going deaf from MG fire or shooting in a hallway

I gave an example last night on how comtacs work

"A normal example that I just experienced under my 3s, walking my dog with comtacs on I couldn't hear my dog at all despite her being right next to me because my comtacs amplified the rustling trees and droning from cars.
Had my dog and I been wearing VI with NIBs, I would be able to pick up my dogs noises but I'd still be situationally aware of the rustling and cars."

The last part is the benefit of COmtac VIs but 🤷🏿
