No a lot were socialists believe it or not

but most importantly the originals wanted Ireland and the terrorists wanted the north

they ended up splitting but each had thousands in their military

and I think the communist IRA had about 10-20 thousand members and some were hired by the ussr and sent to north korea

long story short they tricked north koreans into thinking they had a much bigger army and took on extensive training

and they struggled a lot with the training because of their fitness levels, and they hated their food

but they were still treated pretty highly by citizen north koreans

after that the communist IRA who went to north korea didnt like for communism to be the future for Ireland anymore

because of how north korea turned out because of it

this was in the middle of the cold war too. But Irish people generally just try their best to do whats best for their people, they only then realized how bad communism was.
