just found this as a reference
in 1972 476 people died due to the troubles
Wow. That's horrible.
I still wouldn't say its as bad as the middle east though.
idk
but in 10 countries and a total of 100 killed I think.
before and during the troubles ni was a total police state
100 over 10 countries
Didnt they use children as shields?
Yeah but thats just in 2016
who
The police.
back then
the ruc were brutal
So I've heard.
they raided peoples homes and beat them
Yeah the name rings a bell but I forgot what it was exactly.
well basically the apprentice boys (protestants) held a march in derry as they would annually
they started flicking pennies at the catholics living in the bogside
so some people retaliated with rocks
and then the ruc was called in they started fighting people
stormont brought back the b-specials, whom were a protestant citizens police group
there was rioting for around 50 hours
and then the british soldiers were called in
Wow.
And all this started from throwing pennies and rocks?
the was alot of tension already
I see.
because of the violence of the ruc and the civil rights movment
nicra (northern Ireland civil rights association) held a march for equal rights and the ruc lead them into an ambush were they were pelted with glass bottlesa and rocks
and then they called in the b-specials whom started to beat the marchers
Why didnt they see it was wrong?
some thought the ruc was an affront for the ira
Makes sense.
and alot of the ruc and b-specials were strict loyalists
