the latter is CBT and pathology and all that
had a psychotic break and got the fuck out of it
She's also bipolar
I have anxiety
Yeah people often have traumatic events happen to them
or long held beliefs from child hood
I'm an atheist but her family is catholic and she hasn't stepped inside a church and i don't discuss religion with her that much
other than to really support her when she's discussing her experiences
I dont believe in pathologising mental illness. you deal with individuals
nobody is the same
and no treatment for mental illness is the exact same
Yeah but talking
is the best we got
Not fucking ssris
I think I get what you're saying
we shouldn't use it as a label or identifier
but we should still treat it
Right.
agreed
we aren't defined by those things
I meet so many people that, as i said, tell me their diagnosis straight away
case in point stephen hawking
The idea that there is systemic mental health issues
is not even considered
Yeah thats a good point
@Nicholas91 how we deal with mental health needs to change
for sure
openess is good
But I'm pretty sure we guys all agree
Yeah I think the left needs to take it on
and politicise it
but that's not getitng to the roots
like many other issues of the day its a half hearted response
We have to do away with the idea that it can ever be a hard science
We don't need to get anyone to admit to being mentally ill
but honest genuine compassion on the issue might reach some
If you say we need better mental health care I'm sure you could get republicans to agree
Yeah I mean I see a therapist because my childhood was difficult and i responded to that lack of control with defense mechanisms that did more to alienate people
And after a year or so i was able to really work through a lot of it
like thinking a girl could fix all my problems and that my opinions were important
