It doesn't take very long for medical professionals to reach a conclusion in this regard. We already have tons of literature as is regarding the minds of serial killers. Analyze their brains, study their behavior, and collect the data.

It will take years obviously but the more and longer you spend on studying them the quicker it will be to cure them which means less innocents dead

This isn't going anywhere. You say it's pointless to quickly and painlessly end their lives and assuredly prevent them from murdering more innocent people in the future and I say it isn't.

What proof? How about our current understanding of neuroscience and psychology? To suggest otherwise is just foolish and naive and completely at odds with the mainstream scientific consensus. Even common sense would dictate that some people are genuinely fucked up beyond all repair.

It's best to study them and understand them and know how to treat them in order to prevent future killers.

We're not going to somehow stop here in medical advancement.

So a psychiatric professional studies them in-depth and concludes that they cannot be fixed with medications and behavioral therapy, then what? House them and feed them and hope for the best while wasting tons of money and resources in the process? That sounds like the opposite of advancement.

Perhaps it will take a lot of brain surgery and removal of parts of the brain and replacements.

Perhaps some better alternatives.

That sounds like an astronomical waste of time and money. Not to mention unrealistic and cruel and not bound to be achievable any time soon.
