@aWildTomAppeared how do you feel about the best ancient greek philosopher, democritus?

2020-01-15 01:03:18 UTC

idk, im kina new, dont know much other than like plato and aristotle when it comes to philosophers, Was thinking recently, considering aristotle basically made the basis of the scentific theory, do you think if he had the printing press, the renaissance, and therefore all of recent human technological improvements would have happened 2000 years earlier??

2020-01-15 01:04:49 UTC

Probably

2020-01-15 01:05:00 UTC

Probably be worse off tbh

2020-01-15 01:05:05 UTC

idk

2020-01-15 01:05:19 UTC

kek

2020-01-15 01:05:52 UTC

There's a lot of Important philosophical development that happened between Aristotle and the printing press.

2020-01-15 01:05:57 UTC

the more I read into greek philosophy and their general way of life/spirit, the more I wish they survived, but then again, the english values are basically as good as it gets, so idk if it would be better

2020-01-15 01:06:26 UTC

It never really went away, it just evolved

2020-01-15 01:06:36 UTC

devolved you mean

2020-01-15 01:06:41 UTC

Evolved

2020-01-15 01:06:53 UTC

how? they were just taken over by the romans

2020-01-15 01:07:17 UTC

Not really

2020-01-15 01:07:25 UTC

They were still hellenic

2020-01-15 01:07:44 UTC

The Romans respected the Greek culture, as long as it remained subservient

2020-01-15 01:09:46 UTC

I dont see how the greek can be greek while being subservient, they always seem to refuse to bend the knee or give up like that,

2020-01-15 01:09:58 UTC

like the melians

2020-01-15 01:10:09 UTC

Well Idk what to tell you. Go read a book

2020-01-15 01:10:40 UTC

im on it, still early into history

2020-01-15 01:10:45 UTC

The Greeks had a lot of respect in Rome.

They just wanted them to pay their taxes and not compete with them

2020-01-15 01:11:17 UTC

Kind of like the UK and America

2020-01-15 01:11:18 UTC

I am aware of how the romans read and spread greek philosophy, but like I dont see any progression from the greek times to the medevil

2020-01-15 01:11:52 UTC

That's because it's mostly hidden from pop culture

2020-01-15 01:12:39 UTC

You think the Greeks went from a pantheon of gods to Orthodoxy on a whim?

Greek philosophy didn't end; it just evolved into Theology.

2020-01-15 01:13:08 UTC

Hellenic Judaism was the start of that

2020-01-15 01:14:46 UTC

idk man doesnt feel like in improvement to me, from the omni-critical approach of aristotle to Abrahamic religons, I wish at least one endo-european culture had the balls not to take on abrahamic religons,

2020-01-15 01:15:15 UTC

Lol k

2020-01-15 01:18:29 UTC

u know any good sources to learn about the greeks after they were strong to more modern times? @Fitzydog
