Eh, weight is a big thing and if you get PE ceramic composite thickness is not a factor any more and spalling is non-existent

And multi hit plates are a thing too

That's also true, it's not NIJ, it's their own testing they've come up with to show that it will stop threats greater than level iii

NIJ does not test for 3+

Yes its inhouse testing to determine the armor can take greater than level 3 threats, as I said

A lot of armor companies do inhouse testing and then pay for NIJ testing

There are also independent labs that test that are not NIJ

The non NIJ certification made me sell off some PE plates that bought without doing the research. Then bought the ceramics for what a guy paid for my PEs

You'll see more companies forego NIJ testing to keep costs down

There are other independent testing labs

NIJ testing literally costs 10s of thousands of dollars

And most armor companies do not produce the volume to mitigate that cost

Hence why their plates are 2-300 bucks instead of 100

With the new NIJ Standards many companies are just waiting to get there plates tested on the new standard instead of wasting the money on the old standard
