LOL a large part of that article is flawed and falls short of quite a few facts.

2020-01-20 05:16:10 UTC

My scare with wearing AR500 is getting popped with a 7mm mag or something that is beating the velocity of the plate. It mentioned that the plates were being defeated by a 16” barrel with 55grain. I ordered a set of the ar500s 10x12 3+ curved plates around 4 years ago. During my wait there was a video of a guy shooting a Ar500 plate of the same make, if I’m not mistaken on the make. He was using either a 16” or a 20” with 55 grain rounds. It penetrated. I did call the company where a lady answered and said that he was using armor piercing rounds or a special barrel. I obviously can’t prove the information. But the whole idea of not having Nij plates is what bothered me. I’m not saying the plates haven’t improved since then. Now I just worry about the weight and spalling

2020-01-20 05:18:01 UTC

Yeah AR500 has improved slightly, better QC but considering ceramic has gotten so much more available? Why bother at this point

2020-01-20 05:18:07 UTC

Look at it this way. If u got ceramic ur set. If u got steel ur ok. If u got nothing ur taking a bullet either way.

2020-01-20 05:18:47 UTC

Exactly. AR500 is better than t shirt

2020-01-20 05:18:49 UTC

I still prefer ceramics to steel. I like weight and they are still multi hit rates

2020-01-20 05:18:56 UTC

If ur buying armor at this point get ceramic. If u like I have had plates for years when ceramic was stupid expensive upgrade if u can

2020-01-20 05:19:08 UTC

“I like weight” as in light weight

2020-01-20 05:19:17 UTC

You maybe talking to yourself there Stephen? lmao

2020-01-20 05:19:32 UTC

So. At least I respond

2020-01-20 05:19:50 UTC

Let him talk himself into something

2020-01-20 05:19:50 UTC

I'm kidding mate you had mentioned being in that situation

2020-01-20 05:19:50 UTC

Yeah the article has a ton of misinformation. first off AR500 is NIJ rated, but its just a weird way that the do it. And 5.56 scare, requires a 20" barrel and a special +p round

2020-01-20 05:21:09 UTC

Yeah but Ceramics have a shelf life, and are a crap shoot whether the plate has an internal fracture and there is no way to check it yourself. Not to mention its bulky as hell. You are only saving a 3lbs? roughly.

2020-01-20 05:21:23 UTC

Idk about the NIJ rating unless that’s new. I have 16 plates and they aren’t rated

2020-01-20 05:21:51 UTC

We couldn’t sell them to police departments because they weren’t Nij rated

2020-01-20 05:22:09 UTC

Ceramics are defiantly not a crap shoot

2020-01-20 05:22:25 UTC

Steve, the plates are cut from a sheet of steel and they get the sheet NIJ rated then cut the plates. It saves them on money. I think its stupid.

2020-01-20 05:22:34 UTC

If they are certed they can't be a crap shoot

2020-01-20 05:22:36 UTC

That’s how I got my ceramics. The ceramics I got were only 219.99 a plate

2020-01-20 05:22:47 UTC

Wouldn’t that be compromising integrity @MrBlack

2020-01-20 05:23:13 UTC

They are hydro cut so no heat to fuck with the tamper.

2020-01-20 05:23:19 UTC

Okay

2020-01-20 05:23:19 UTC

@Itcilis I have no clue

2020-01-20 05:23:23 UTC

I do know that much

2020-01-20 05:23:56 UTC

I’m going to look into that. I know hydro cutting makes it safe for like he said the heat treat

2020-01-20 05:24:21 UTC

Idk. I’d trust it to stop a 5.56 at anything more than cqb distance. And if im taking hits center mass at that distance I’ve got bigger issues than how many hits my plate will stop

2020-01-20 05:24:34 UTC

But on their FB page they have adressed the NIJ claims several times.

2020-01-20 05:25:16 UTC

That's a good point Stephen

2020-01-20 05:25:18 UTC

I’m wearing ceramics right now

2020-01-20 05:25:18 UTC

As a police supply store we literally couldn’t sell them to departments because of the lack of certification. We could sell to individual officer. If a officer bought them it was for a throw on carrier over their soft armor. But it wasn’t something we would take liability for.

2020-01-20 05:25:58 UTC

@steve there is a video from...years ago, of some guys putting over 100 rounds of GT into the lvl 3 plate from 50ft(?) and it still didn't fail. Its reputation is well deserved.

2020-01-20 05:26:14 UTC

My ceramics I’m wearing right now are about 6.3lbs each

2020-01-20 05:26:17 UTC

Not bad at all

2020-01-20 05:26:27 UTC

Because I wear large

2020-01-20 05:26:32 UTC

Really? I thought they would be lighter?

2020-01-20 05:26:45 UTC

The mediums are light

2020-01-20 05:26:54 UTC

5.5lbs a plate

2020-01-20 05:26:54 UTC

Same mine are seven because they're 10x12

2020-01-20 05:27:07 UTC

Cause my 10x12s are 7 pounds and they are steel
