We had strong, FUNCTIONAL unions that weren't pieces of shit, we had a robust middle class, and we manufactured shit. Then in the 70s, it all started slipping away. They offshored the jobs, they got rid of the corporate tax rate, they turned unions into shells of what they were, and declawed the ones that wouldn't back down from actually fighting for workers, and then they financialized the market so now you have to have massive credit just to buy anything of importance (house, car, etc). The boomers destroyed the housing market, and to top it all off, they forced the working class to foot the bill with higher taxes
