The problem with representative government in the United States is that it's become too representative. The government relies on the idea that the people are too lackadaisical, too uncaring, and most of all, perfectly uninformed.
Read the legislation, call and write your representatives and senators. The resources are out there, and they are free! It takes just a small amount of time out of your day to type an email, to make a phone call, to remind your representatives and senators that they work FOR the public.
The balance of representative government and democracy is only upheld so long as the democratic voices of the people are heard en masse!
