A carbon water filter is a good idea.

Even if it is exceptionally clean, you can never rely on repairmen keeping welds clean, greases wiped and pipes in perfect state

Make sure it's an activated carbon one though. as mechanical filters don't remove chemicals.

Neither is good for your health in any amount

Even cheapest filter will catch that stray particle and you won't be suffering for years to come

Honestly, anything that isn't using activated carbon is probably a waste of money in the west

I almost guarantee that if people knew how pipes are welded, and how irresponsibly sluggish the workers are, they all would use filters

But honestly, it's not a pressing issue really. Removing low levels of harmful chemicals will make it healthier for you. But the water is safe to drink in the west as a rule.
