Short conversation

2019-12-03 09:44:49 UTC

Yeah, I'm not a moral absolutist, although there are morals I think should be held in high regard I realize that it is folly to give powers to an authority and not expect it to be used against your cause.

2019-12-03 09:44:54 UTC

If you agree with me on that philosophy, then would you also agre that worrying about the people around you is also entirely up to the individual?

2019-12-03 09:45:25 UTC

I think the individual would suffer if he only worried about himself.

2019-12-03 09:45:41 UTC

Perhaps, but like I said, happiness is overrated

2019-12-03 09:45:49 UTC

It's in his biology.

2019-12-03 09:46:07 UTC

I think every person likes different amounts of socializing

2019-12-03 09:46:08 UTC

You won't find meaning in yourself only.

2019-12-03 09:46:23 UTC

I myself don't like to socialize, I'm highly selective about it

2019-12-03 09:46:54 UTC

That is fair, but you should still find people to care about.

2019-12-03 09:47:29 UTC

Well like I said, I think that's up to each individual

2019-12-03 09:47:39 UTC

I would go as far as to say you *ought* to care about all people although I think it would be folly to enforce such upon you.

2019-12-03 09:48:33 UTC

I would agree that meeting people makes life more interesting, but that's about all. I think it's purely the psychological/biological/chemical reaction we have to meeting people that we crave.

2019-12-03 09:49:12 UTC

What do you value in life?

2019-12-03 09:49:31 UTC

Interesting things?

2019-12-03 09:49:37 UTC

And freedom

2019-12-03 09:50:10 UTC

I value some people, but I'm highly selective about it like I said. I value them not for the fact that they are people, but for what memories I have with them

2019-12-03 09:50:47 UTC

If they were droids and I never found out, would it make a difference? Probably not, so in my opinion I'm being entirely self-serving by caring about other people.

2019-12-03 09:51:07 UTC

Oh so am I.

2019-12-03 09:51:32 UTC

I think people are entirely self-serving by their very nature.

2019-12-03 09:52:22 UTC

Yet I would attempt to do whatever in my power to help the people around me, because that is the only way I get my kicks.

2019-12-03 09:52:46 UTC

Yeah, I know a few people like that

2019-12-03 09:52:55 UTC

I would help some, but not even close to all

2019-12-03 09:53:51 UTC

A bit of a crass way to put it but it matters to me how I act and how I seem. I want to enbody an ideal.

2019-12-03 09:54:17 UTC

I mean, in my opinion the majority of help comes from within, or else it'll fail

2019-12-03 09:54:29 UTC

Exceptions being infants I guess

2019-12-03 09:54:52 UTC

Or in cases of illness etc.

2019-12-03 09:54:52 UTC

I think teaching is very valuable.

2019-12-03 09:55:16 UTC

Community does that better than instituions of learning.

2019-12-03 09:55:31 UTC

Yet gives you no diploma

2019-12-03 09:55:44 UTC

So is seemingly worthless in the modern economy

2019-12-03 09:55:57 UTC

idk, I think people do the learning for themselves, or else they don't do it

2019-12-03 09:56:03 UTC

Especially long term

2019-12-03 09:56:30 UTC

You need to want to learn, do the work.

2019-12-03 09:56:39 UTC

I've tried to make all sorts of different people understand all sorts of different things, and the vast majority of times it fails, even when they pay me to do it

2019-12-03 09:56:40 UTC

But you also need a good teacher.

2019-12-03 09:57:22 UTC

Sure, the material and the teaching practice must be high quality for better learning effect, that's correct

2019-12-03 09:58:16 UTC

Teaching is a matter of passing on information through instinct and emotion. Some teachers work better with some students.

2019-12-03 09:58:20 UTC

I just believe teaching disproportionally increases in value if the student is motivated and actively studying

2019-12-03 09:58:30 UTC

Even when the teaching isn't that great to begin with

2019-12-03 09:58:32 UTC

I agree.
