A government's goal is to preserve virtue and the family

and the environment

Governments job is to serve and protect the rights of it's citizens.

To save its people and protect them wherever they may live

as well as to maintain the traditions and ways of their people.

To enforce the rights of the people.

Not protect, not give, enforce.

A citizen's right is not a privilege or a gift that can be given away. A right is a contract between the state and the people that if you pay your taxes and follow your laws, you will be protected by the government.

In the example of the United States, the federal government should enforce the rights of every citizen to bear arms and not allow state governments to remove that right. The State/Fed divide only plays the citizens against one another.
