And not only had it suffered a plague
It was suffering other things
I think when the 1400s swung around, then things became better
But it was very feudal and oppressive compared to, say, Arabia
Things improved for Europe in the years of colonization
Yeah after feudalism gave way to colonialism and freer markets
Arabia was also oppressive
But more organised
But not nearly as bad for the commoner
Europe was a mess
Even after the 1400s Turks had better system for quite a while
The biggest mistake of the Turks was treating Christians as second class
And overestimating its power in ending Austria
Turks treated Christians better than the Christians treated Muslims
And Austria was a supply issue as much as anything
Turks wanted to play nice with their occupied lands
So they didn’t have to deal with 100 rebellions
And that worked largely
Eh, for a while
They got troops and taxes from their Christian subjects
Once absolutism came around
And the idea of using all resources of the state
And then the Ottomans were a complete joke in the 1700-1900s
Turkish had way too much autonomy from 1600 to late 19. Century
Then it was too little too late
Industrialization was in full swing
I’m Romanian
And a second wave of colonialism was sweeping Europe
I generally am glad that the Ottomans couldn’t handle the Balkans anymore
You're respectful about it though
And don't call Turkish roaches
Only if I am to mock id call Turks “Turkroaches”
Only as a joke
Good
Tbh pre columbian societies and Africa are some of my bigger interests when it comes to ancient history
A little of bit India
I
