They were a hyper advanced civilization and we're expirementing with I believe It was the heart of Lorkan (the most powerful deaderic god) but it went horribly wrong and all the snow eleves just instantly disappeared

Eventually the dwemer went extinct and all that was left were the falmer, the poisoned inbred survivors of the snow elves

Kahjit are OP early game because they're claws do a base damage of 30

the dwemer were the ones messing with the heart, they enslaved the snow elves after they fled from the ancient nords @Maksim

Meaning right from the start you have the same damage as a mid-game glass sword

Last 2 snow elves were Auriel and his brother

During the task for auriels bow Auriel asks you to kill his brother because he was corrupted by the falmer

So once you complete that there's only 1 snow elf remaining

However, it's noted the falmer have gotten smarter over generations so there is {some} hope they may "re-evolve" over several hundred years
