Actually Google's search quality has degraded only because websites game the system. And use shady tactics to boost their search rank on irrelevant terms. Which dilutes the accuracy of results and makes more and more irrelevant stuff show up.

Well okay, if it makes you feel better, was selling the internet to an independent entity entirely necessary? Not really.
