@Modern Man https://theconversation.com/the-world-is-facing-a-global-sand-crisis-83557
The numbers vary between a couple of years and a couple of decades. Sand is an irreplacable component of concrete mix. There are multiple studies attempting to replace concrete with reused ground up plastic, however it is unlikely that these projects will be able to replace sand entirely. And ye, I'm an architect, haven't started my Masters yet, so just low-wage CAD monkeying.

Isnt there a threat of sand usable for glass running out?

2019-01-22 22:40:04 UTC

Any sand that has rough grains in it is under threat.

2019-01-22 22:40:29 UTC

lel

2019-01-22 22:40:48 UTC

The reason desert sand is not acceptable in concrete mix is specifically due to the fact that the sand granules are smoothed out by constant winds.

2019-01-22 22:41:02 UTC

What about Ocean Sand? that usable at all?

2019-01-22 22:42:44 UTC

chemistry can fix it all cant it?

2019-01-22 22:43:52 UTC

https://www.environmentalleader.com/2018/09/waste-plastic-structural-concrete/ As a matter of fact, it can, just at a slower pace.

2019-01-22 22:44:09 UTC

@Kazimir Malevich We will find new ways of obtaining sand I am sure! Just like we found new ways of obtaining soap!

2019-01-22 22:44:31 UTC

you will burn in hell for your hersey

Reminds me of sargon

2019-01-22 22:45:14 UTC

@PunishedMuskovy It's more about the accessibility of the sand in question. Similar to oil, there will still be reserves, but they will be too inaccessible to be profitable.

2019-01-22 22:45:38 UTC

Speaking of the ocean, is it possible to use ocean currents for hydro power?

2019-01-22 22:45:44 UTC

i belive in organized labor
