It's not that hard to understand. But then again... maybe it is for you. Everything that happens in DB Z up until that last episode is cannon. But Toryama wanted to continue and expand the story before anything in that episode is a thing. So all you have to do to follow the timeline is watch DBZ skip the last episode and go to Super.

Then in Super you will get the same thing happening, but later
