I dont see why they wouldnt though
I think its reasonable
To let any administrator view IP addresses
Then you can make bots like the one I mentioned
Hell no. I don't want them having that info
IP addresses dont even say anything about you
They give a location, and an isp
As an ex-manager of a community of 60k people, I can tell you that letting people see your IP wont do you any harm at all
Unless
They have a VPS loaded with some trash DOS.py script or something
Anybody with $2.50 can DOS you
But its expensive if you do it a lot because of bandwidth
Tiem to bring it back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmi3x-Ar86Q
5 minutes of DOS can easily rack up 30GB of bandwidth usage
I can probably still find the stat hold on
Nope
Vultr shut my account down and wiped all my servers 😦
But yeah, unless they're some skid trying to DOS random people (Which people dont do that because it costs a lot of money) I dont see any problem with letting admins see IP addresses
People with it can track isp and the city you live in, that's about it
Anybody with your first and last name can track you down
You email grants far more info than any IP address
When you hear something so unbelievably stupid
Used an email to type into Facebook, user now has your general location, family members to contact, your name, etc. Type in that name or family members names into Whitepages and you get addresses, phone numbers, etc.
If I ever wanted somebody's personal info, I never used their IP, despite having access to it
I used their email
Well that sounds terrible.
I didnt do it for bad reasons
As the community manager, I had to make sure that my staff members weren't being DOSed by kids
Somebody confessed to DOSing one of them, so I found all his personal info and used it to get him to stop
I mean in general. That could be really bad if someone got that info
Because all computers are protected under law, DOS is a felony in most states
They'd have to know what to do with it. But you can't get any of that from an IP address
Most you can do is call the ISP
But you'd have to know some of their personal info prior to doing that, so that you can get something out of the isp
Anyways, I bought another server with a new Vultr account (because they deleted my first account, but never removed their email from the db???) to see how much bandwidth the DOS script uses
and now they're telling me it could take up to 24 hours to verify my account
ffs
