It's scripted, so it never stops.

I used to watch anime all the time, but it has been a year or two before I actually watched one.

I get tired of people talking about anime as if it's some glorious thing. It's just a crazy word for "Japanese animation." It's not automatically better just because you don't translate the name. Japan values animated entertainment more than live action so they have more animated shows meant for wider audiences. Versus American animation, which focuses more so on being mindless comedies due to strict control and meddling by the few animation networks like Nick, Disney, and Cartoon Network.
Since Japan doesn't do that, and they have more animated shows than live action, it's more likely that you'll find something you'll like since it's not limited to slapstick comedy targeted to children like it is here. But that doesn't change that just like TV anywhere, most of the shows produced are going to be terrible.

Japanese people don't say "I'm going to go watch some anime." They'll say "I'm going to watch a show."

It just bugs me how people are obsessed with that word when it's being used so incorrectly.

It's not even an issue of languages evolving because people are referring to another language, native users of that language not using that word like that.

It's no different than getting a tattoo in an asian language, like Japanese, thinking it means something cool when it actually means something like "scrotum"

Well, there are distinct differences in how a simple cartoon and anime was made, how it's produced, and how it can change tones relatively easily. Though, anime does mean cartoon; that cannot be denied.

People just say it to sound cool not realizing they're actually saying something pretty ridiculous as far as native speakers are conserned
