So, about art and how it's hard.
You all know that little kids just can't stand it when you tall them that what they've drawn (sung or written) isn't really that good, right?
You really need to critique kids' work more as they grow up. I'm sick of grown-ass teens that have a meltdown when you say them that their shitty drawing isn't good. How the fuck are you supposed to progress if all you hear is praise?

@pastiche i believe the reason for that is that parents are growing to be more protective of their children, teaching them to be soft and weakinging their ability to take criticism
@pastiche Here is the solution to helping kids grow up with an understanding of hard work and taking satisfaction in a job well done and understanding their audience
hell i know im really bad at taking criticism towards my art, but its only because people criticise the things i hadnt thought about and it hurts way more than my own harsh criticisms
You be a fucking parent and educate your kid on the fruits of their labors and how dedication = results
Something as simple as they want a dog so you show them how to build a fence and help them do it
See you later, Pornstars.
Then once it is done you get a puppy (preferably a papillon, those lil bastards can live up to 15 years) then you teach them step by step how to take care of it and hold their hand for a couple weeks
then let them take care of it from then on
I have a little cousin, she's ten now or something. I never tell her that her drawings are good, but I tell her βthis drawing is better than the last one, keep it upβ if it's really better. I hope this'll help her learn to be critical.
yes it will pheliska
that will help them
it gives positive reinforcement while also gently pushing them onwards
try and hide criticisms in praise so they take it to heart, but only if they're relatively young
well even as they grow up
As a role model your opinion matters more than most
giving an outright negative opinion will deter them from doing what they did or what they drew
explain preferences
use music as an example
help them understand that failure is not the end but a chance to find flaws and improve
but do not stop there
help them find their flaws
help them learn how to improve and avoid making those same flaws
eventually they'll pick up on it and grow
should also teach them about motivatioin and how to keep it, almost as important as all that
not as important as teaching them to grow
motivation is a fickle mistress for many authors and artists
why are we giving parenting advice
Because we are decent human beings who want children to grow up to be functional members of society and not coddled cellar dwellers tweeting out how the patriarchy is ruining the world and the government is oppressing women and protecting rapists
