It's a byproduct of changing positions in space. If there is no motion, no change, there is no time. At least not in any meaningful sense.

The easiest way I can explain it is to think of how a game or movie or cartoon is made. There are still frames, still positions, but the computer or projector renders each one in succession to create the illusion that time is passing as it cycles forward or backwards through the slides.

In our case, the entire universe is a still frame and we're moving in some fourth spatial dimension through each universe frame

that is slightly different from our present one

but we only ever experience time in the present. We can't experience the past or future. We can only create abstract memories or fantasies about them in our minds.

But for all practical purposes, it's only stuff happening to us now. Like regret and worry are useless cuz we can't experience ten years ago or ten years from now, is what I mean by we only ever experience the present. Only those immediate stimuli

Things like quantum entanglement actually defy our perceptions of time as changes occur instantaneously without regards to space.
