2019-10-24 12:45:24 UTC

i'd rather scour my boobies off with a rusty SOS pad

2019-10-24 12:52:40 UTC

cargirl - btw i love how people went for large vehicles, then the military went for small vehicles 🙂

2019-10-24 12:54:03 UTC

Yes well as the tech advances so does our vehicles because we can go smaller but stronger, faster, better armored. I mean tanks from ww1 to today is a good example of that.

2019-10-24 12:54:53 UTC

well ww1 and ww2 they were still thinking about tankettes 😮 but yes they also looking at shit like the mouse which was simply unfeasible

2019-10-24 12:57:02 UTC

Well you think of tanks like the Abrams, its armor is slopped plus i believe they also have reactive armor and the ammo has evolved as well that could pretty much punch though all earlier model tanks

2019-10-24 12:57:35 UTC

btw have u seen the new special forces bikes? hybrid electric motors for silent running for short distances.. got some interesting tactical problems tho... some of our guys tried 2 do a mock ambush followed by pow extraction... but having a pow on the back of you bike as you ride off where they can easily throw you off the bike or grab at your weapons isnt exactly a good plan

2019-10-24 12:58:03 UTC

I’m usually cautious of using the term unfeasible when using hindsight. We know they are when they’re done, but many things that were considered unfeasible in the past are common now, right? Didn’t someone say there was no reason for everyone to have a computer in their home?

2019-10-24 12:58:24 UTC

Now I have one in my pocket

Tanks like these are a joke but back in the day it was very much experimental.

2019-10-24 13:00:34 UTC

reyhan - they had plenty of things they build that we didnt continue cuz unfeasible... the mouse even if built today with some more modern technology still not a good idea, would still have issues with bridging and soft ground... also is a massive target for air attack. As an example of something we built and used the dora and gustov guns... but they needed thousands of troops to operate, on fired like 20 times in the war, and spend the vast majority of their time hiding from air attack

2019-10-24 13:00:43 UTC

Hell, Tesla’s power-system is the current focus of phone charging. They’re extending safe induction charging distances and the main reason they’re doing it slowly is fear of cooking important bits

2019-10-24 13:01:21 UTC

Reykan*

2019-10-24 13:01:44 UTC

But we often don’t run into the issues until they’ve been tried

2019-10-24 13:01:57 UTC

That’s all I’m saying

2019-10-24 13:02:23 UTC

im not saying dont build a prototype, im saying once we try to use it in testing we usually find out its trash

2019-10-24 13:02:50 UTC

or we find out its awesome... but tons of stuff we find out is trash

2019-10-24 13:03:41 UTC

Gotta did through the trash to find the treasure sometimes

2019-10-24 13:03:57 UTC

like someone the other day was talking about emp grenades... which the military has been r&d'in for decades now... but still no production models and all the effects we can get from emp grenade we can get using other cheaper easier to produce means

2019-10-24 13:05:21 UTC

Yea, and I would think the downsides of emp would outweigh the benefits anyway. We use too much tech to want to fry it all in an area

2019-10-24 13:05:44 UTC

And I would think the controls for it would be very difficult

2019-10-24 13:07:46 UTC

man portable emp generators (let alone grenades) dont have much effective range... and tactically your side planning and being prepared for an emp and the enemy being suprised is a valuable asset

2019-10-24 13:08:31 UTC

tho not using emp, and beingable to do signal triangulation to figure out where the enemy are inside a building is also a valuable asset 🙂

2019-10-24 13:09:00 UTC

emp is very limited range indeed

2019-10-24 13:09:11 UTC

also. EMP is not just one thing

2019-10-24 13:09:49 UTC

You can't cover all the frequencies, so an EMP can only be effective against certain narrow ranges

2019-10-24 13:10:00 UTC

And it is defeated by a metal enclosure

2019-10-24 13:10:06 UTC

By a literal metal box

2019-10-24 13:10:37 UTC

uksio - usually there is some gateway into the box... like a radio antenna as an example
