Its so he does't run into traffic
I probably wouldn't, but I don't care what an animal 'wants' @James Rimor
Negative reinforcement doesn't work in training animals
Works well historically.
He only ever got shocked once
He knew from that point on
The beeping is unpleasant to them as well
Oh yey so on top of the electrical shock they get a painful beep as well
So they'll learn not to trigger the thing that hurts them
<:brainlet:505799727657254922>
Its not painful just unpleasant
I've studied animal behaviour and training for 5 years, if I want a dog to do something I reward it for the action. So now both my dogs will do exactly that without the fear of being punished
Carrot is better then stick
But in this case youre avoiding a negative action
You have to have negative reinforcement reserved for bad things
You're not because it's still receiving the beep what you yourself said is unpleasant, therefore the beep is also the stick
Even if it's just "no" in a stern voice
Negative reinforcement is never acceptable
But it worked
You ignore bad behaviour so it isn't reinforced, if you acknowledge the behaviour the dog will know that it gets attention
Yes it may work but the method to getting it to work is barbaric and cruel
Its not cruel
Its like raising a child
"barbaric and cruel"
So?
You cant only be positive
If you or me zapped a child with 6,000 volts of electricity we'd be in jail
If your child doesnt something bad you cant allow that
Nice goalposts
Animals aren't the same as children. @James Rimor
Are you vegan? @James Rimor
Like take horses for instance
Horses get negative reinforcement for being aggressive with other horses
Not in the UK
Dogs actually use negative reinforcement with eachother
Mothers will growl at their pups for doing something they shouldnt
If the default state is the undesired action negative enforcement is the only option
No a mother dog growing at puppy is not negative reinforcement
Negative reinforcement is a HUMAN training technique, in where a HUMAN wants a desirable reaction from an ANIMAL. Negative reinforcement in not used in nature as it's a human concept
Jesus dude this is behaviour 101
