Thats pretty weird

2019-09-17 22:42:00 UTC

No because it's animal cruilty

2019-09-17 22:42:10 UTC

Not really

2019-09-17 22:42:27 UTC

How would you like 6,000 volts of electricity going through your body?

2019-09-17 22:42:44 UTC

I've used my dogs collar on myself

2019-09-17 22:43:37 UTC

It also beeps near the perimeter

2019-09-17 22:43:49 UTC

So he knows when hes somewhere he shouldnt be

2019-09-17 22:44:11 UTC

Its so he does't run into traffic

2019-09-17 22:44:15 UTC

I probably wouldn't, but I don't care what an animal 'wants' @James Rimor

2019-09-17 22:44:19 UTC

Negative reinforcement doesn't work in training animals

2019-09-17 22:44:30 UTC

Works well historically.

2019-09-17 22:44:45 UTC

He only ever got shocked once

2019-09-17 22:44:59 UTC

He knew from that point on

2019-09-17 22:45:18 UTC

The beeping is unpleasant to them as well

2019-09-17 22:45:45 UTC

Oh yey so on top of the electrical shock they get a painful beep as well

2019-09-17 22:46:02 UTC

So they'll learn not to trigger the thing that hurts them

2019-09-17 22:46:03 UTC

<:brainlet:505799727657254922>

2019-09-17 22:46:17 UTC

Its not painful just unpleasant

2019-09-17 22:47:26 UTC

I've studied animal behaviour and training for 5 years, if I want a dog to do something I reward it for the action. So now both my dogs will do exactly that without the fear of being punished

2019-09-17 22:47:43 UTC

Carrot is better then stick

2019-09-17 22:48:28 UTC

But in this case youre avoiding a negative action

2019-09-17 22:49:35 UTC

You have to have negative reinforcement reserved for bad things

2019-09-17 22:49:39 UTC

You're not because it's still receiving the beep what you yourself said is unpleasant, therefore the beep is also the stick

2019-09-17 22:49:49 UTC

Even if it's just "no" in a stern voice

2019-09-17 22:49:53 UTC

Negative reinforcement is never acceptable

2019-09-17 22:50:08 UTC

But it worked

2019-09-17 22:50:42 UTC

You ignore bad behaviour so it isn't reinforced, if you acknowledge the behaviour the dog will know that it gets attention

2019-09-17 22:51:02 UTC

Yes it may work but the method to getting it to work is barbaric and cruel

2019-09-17 22:51:10 UTC

Its not cruel

2019-09-17 22:51:21 UTC

Its like raising a child

2019-09-17 22:51:29 UTC

"barbaric and cruel"

2019-09-17 22:51:30 UTC

So?

2019-09-17 22:51:33 UTC

You cant only be positive

2019-09-17 22:51:45 UTC

If you or me zapped a child with 6,000 volts of electricity we'd be in jail

2019-09-17 22:51:47 UTC

If your child doesnt something bad you cant allow that

2019-09-17 22:51:58 UTC

Nice goalposts

2019-09-17 22:51:58 UTC

Animals aren't the same as children. @James Rimor

2019-09-17 22:52:23 UTC

Are you vegan? @James Rimor

2019-09-17 22:52:30 UTC

Like take horses for instance

2019-09-17 22:53:15 UTC

Horses get negative reinforcement for being aggressive with other horses
