**Centralism intensifies**
Seriously though, I have no idea why people are so enamored of the idea that a civilian sporter knockoff of a shit military rifle would qualify as a "battlefield weapon" in ANY army.
The M16 itself barely is.
When you insist on equality, all weapons are the same, a butter knife is as bad as a tank
The civilian militia called into service as a last-ditch military force in an era when semi-auto rifles were still battlefield capable?
Yep
agreed
of course you can still get the Garand from US military surplus stocks
much better semi-auto rifle, and actually designed for battle in the first place
Damn thing'll put a much heavier round up to 1000 yards downrange, accurately. We weren't even trained to hit with the M16 beyond 300.
I'll happily take the right arm of freedom.
Last I checked, $100 plus training test via the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
Limit 1 to a customer.
I want a Garand.
Go for it
I'm too young to have guns but old enough to lecture people at the UN
So the drill rifles are deliberately rendered inoperable. Figures, since they're the cheapest on offer.
They're sold out, actually.
The cheapest they have that are available (most are sold out) are about $650-$750.
Drill rifles are the military's parade weapons.
They're de-mil'd even before they're considered for sale to the public
Usually means they're pretty beat up, too.
Collectors like 'em for wall-mounts.
I can imagine. Usually from hitting the ground after a misjudged throw.
Or other less-than-stellar performances.
Just imagine how many rifles the Silent Drill Team goes through each year.
It's also a sad truism that they tend to only get basic maintenance before and after parade use. I remember being issued one for a military funeral (one of the several there for display but not firing a salute). It was... really just glossed up for show. Bad wood, rust on the inside of the barrel. They wouldn't even give me time to give it a proper cleaning before "honoring" the dead man with it.
Well, it's not like he's gonna care.
I did.
His wife would have, had she known.
_shrugs._
Just an unprofessional shameful thing.
Can you eat humans?
yes
just not the brain
Bad idea.
