i mean

2019-09-29 03:55:52 UTC

its *potentially* possible

2019-09-29 03:55:56 UTC

No

2019-09-29 03:56:00 UTC

but the main ways of doing it involve drm

2019-09-29 03:56:05 UTC

or always online

2019-09-29 03:56:05 UTC

what they gonna do call the navy

2019-09-29 03:56:06 UTC

It is *physically impossible* to prevent piracy

2019-09-29 03:56:21 UTC

You can only delay it

2019-09-29 03:56:21 UTC

**bet**

We can't even protect the plans for the F-35; You think game devs will have strong enough anti-pirate?

2019-09-29 03:56:37 UTC

Nibba I'm literally a programmer with computer security training

2019-09-29 03:56:50 UTC

well yeah

2019-09-29 03:56:54 UTC

It is impossible to prevent piracy indefinitely

2019-09-29 03:56:55 UTC

@π•―π–Šπ–—_π•Άπ–”π–’π–’π–Žπ–˜π–˜π–†π–— no, it's simpler than that. A *good* game has no inherent value. There's an infinite supply of said game, since the product is just information that can be replicated.
From a rational standpoint, nobody who makes vidya (or movies, or music, etc) should be getting paid for it. The money they do make comes entirely from enticing their consumers to make non-rational purchases.
Companies do not understand this, which is why they keep chasing DRM to no benefit.

2019-09-29 03:57:00 UTC

it is physically impossible to prevent your castle from being sieged

2019-09-29 03:57:03 UTC

but you can delay it

2019-09-29 03:57:04 UTC

I miss the era of demo discs

2019-09-29 03:57:06 UTC

big woop

2019-09-29 03:57:09 UTC

castles still existed

2019-09-29 03:57:15 UTC

"Doom! Play the first level free!"

2019-09-29 03:57:16 UTC

i still have a few demos somewhere

2019-09-29 03:57:39 UTC

that shit was fuckin' errywhere

2019-09-29 03:57:52 UTC

If every dev had a policy of removing the DRM once there's a working crack I'd be more okay with it

2019-09-29 03:57:53 UTC

@Spooky Melon it's much easier to crack DRM than to crack a castle

2019-09-29 03:57:59 UTC

thats true

2019-09-29 03:58:08 UTC

But they don't, and thus legitimate customers are treated as criminals

2019-09-29 03:58:13 UTC

still the same mindset

@UnfilteredGarbage When put that way, I think I've got a better idea of your general contention; Nothing you've said there I can reasonably dispute.

2019-09-29 03:58:15 UTC

anyways

2019-09-29 03:58:24 UTC

@UnfilteredGarbage at least when it comes to physical value, you could say the same with anything that isnt water or food

2019-09-29 03:58:25 UTC

you wouldn't download a car "the fuck I wouldn't"

2019-09-29 03:58:34 UTC

@Eirshy that would be better, yeah

2019-09-29 03:58:43 UTC

but i get your point

2019-09-29 03:58:47 UTC

**mail your local game dev lmao**

2019-09-29 03:58:57 UTC

@killsode-slugcat that's not true. Everything physical has scarcity.

2019-09-29 03:59:09 UTC

but why care about gold?

2019-09-29 03:59:14 UTC

@Spooky Melon Actually no, your castle vs drm analogy isn't the same mindset. A castle doesn't oppress the peasants around it simply by existing

2019-09-29 03:59:19 UTC

uh

2019-09-29 03:59:21 UTC

it kinda does
