Walt was one savvy entrepreneur. What he did, to prevent people from knowing he was buying up swamp land in Florida, was use different subsidiaries to buy the land, or a combination of utilizing a lawyer, who'd then transfer the land to his ownership. The logic followed, if people knew who was buying up the land, they'd all price gouge him.

Fair enough, but Vegas seemed to develop well, apart from the casinos, but arguably that's all they had to offer and drive their local economy anyway.

Certainly, more land in NV *could* be developed, if the opportunity costs justified.
