if gov or community comparmentalizes an activity so that money collected applies directly to a related activity, the market helps that social cause along

There's nothing theoretically wrong with a socialist style system, which is why the support for such a system is most prevalent among the most educated classes.
The problem is always on the implementation side, which is why "common sense" types from the working class tend to oppose such a system. They're less focused on theory, and more on what happens every time it's tried.
