I could agree that the guitar is not art, though it could be made into art at the cost of it's effectiveness as a guitar, but the motions of the player is blatantly an artform as it can be appreciated divorced from the music that it produces.

Again, let’s say the beautiful guitar, has an amazing paint job on it, or it’s made with exotic materials, or it’s just finely crafted. Well done. You’ve got some great art on a tool.

2019-07-29 08:29:48 UTC

That's what I said

2019-07-29 08:29:56 UTC

Read the second part of that statment

2019-07-29 08:30:05 UTC

I was agreeing with you

2019-07-29 08:30:07 UTC

well sortof

2019-07-29 08:30:12 UTC

Read the second part

2019-07-29 08:30:17 UTC

the rest of my statment

2019-07-29 08:30:18 UTC

So if I'm really good at stacking boxes that's an art?

2019-07-29 08:30:30 UTC

depends on how you do it really

2019-07-29 08:30:31 UTC

It depends.
Why are you stacking the boxes?

2019-07-29 08:30:46 UTC

it's all about the finesse and skill of your work

2019-07-29 08:31:06 UTC

well played tetris is definitely an artform

2019-07-29 08:31:11 UTC

^

2019-07-29 08:31:58 UTC

If you are stacking boxes simply so that people can look at the boxes and think about how well they’re stacked. Stacking the boxes was art.
If it’s you’re job to stack boxes, and you’re really fast and efficient at it. Well good for you. You’re great at your job. And we might be amazed and impressed. But it’s not art.

2019-07-29 08:32:15 UTC

Exactly it is a skill that creates said art. Nothing wrong with appreciating skill.

2019-07-29 08:32:40 UTC

It’s not the skill.

2019-07-29 08:32:41 UTC

skill is an artform

2019-07-29 08:32:45 UTC

It’s the purpose.

2019-07-29 08:33:22 UTC

I can pick up a pencil right now and draw a stick figure man pooping into a teacup.
That’s art.
It’s really *bad* art. But it’s art.

2019-07-29 08:34:24 UTC

perhaps this whole theory of 'art' is totally subjective?

2019-07-29 08:34:56 UTC

No wonder art sucks nowadays when everyone make everything an art.

2019-07-29 08:35:04 UTC

lol

2019-07-29 08:35:17 UTC

are is indeed a social construct

2019-07-29 08:35:23 UTC

If I am cleaning out one of the bins at work and spill iron oxide all over some scrap cardboard... it might land in such a way to create a beautiful pattern that everyone adores.
It’s not art. It’s an accident.

2019-07-29 08:35:39 UTC

Nah that's art

2019-07-29 08:35:52 UTC

... but if it commands a price - it's art!

2019-07-29 08:36:00 UTC

You have to decide to create a thing that has no purpose other than be appreciated and judged *as* art.

2019-07-29 08:36:08 UTC

I laid a massive shit the other day. Art.

2019-07-29 08:36:09 UTC

Then you are making art.

2019-07-29 08:36:29 UTC

Lol

2019-07-29 08:36:41 UTC

I gotta go make dinner.

2019-07-29 08:36:48 UTC

of course, stacking boxes can command a price too (in the form of a wage) - so you know, whatever

2019-07-29 08:36:48 UTC

Thanks for that image as I go.

2019-07-29 08:37:34 UTC

some people consider cooking dinner an art - have fun!

2019-07-29 08:41:25 UTC

I just remembered there were japanese performers literally doing construction work as an art performance trending on vine and youtube a couple years ago

2019-07-29 08:47:30 UTC

2019-07-29 08:47:33 UTC
