First, make a shield.
Second, go to YouTube and look up SCA line fighting tactics, watch, practice, improve
For single combat, look at how people in Battle of Nations fight
Amy feed back on my shield. I'm still trying to figure out what to paint on the front of it.
Pro tip
Cut off most of that leather
Here, I altered it to what would suit you better
So, the marked areas are where you can improve your design
Red: You'll want some padding here, if you get hit, you don't want a hard love of wood knocking you in the dome, a piece of foam from a $5 camping bed roll fixes that problem instantly.
Blue: Take an old hose, cut it along one side, and affix it with zip ties to the edges. This protects your shield from breaking under a heavy blow.
Black: You can lose most of that leather, if you need to get that shield off, you don't want your arm getting stuck in there, less material helps with that.
@greg-ky ^^^listen to this guy, he knows what he's talking about.
I also recommend putting padding of some sort where your arm is going to go, or your elbow, wrist, and knuckles are going to get fucked up.
Also, take some pleather or something and glue it on. Stretch it over the front and around the edges folding over the back about 2". This will actually add strength to the shield.
@Nathaniel WI Talk to your leadership. We sent out packets of information to all group leaders in order to get everyone on the same page for the event's security plan. Read the Primer I posted above as well.
Yo Guderian
Hi
I'll pay you 25 plus cost of materials to make me a shield
35*
We will also be putting out a video for basic formations, roles, and commands to all of the group leaders shortly.
@I'm Not Sam Hyde I already have two extra sheets, I'll just make you one.
I'll let you do the straps yourself.
Shoulder width and shoulder to knee length.
Unless you know how you want your straps already, I can throw those on as well.
Alright
I'll talk to you this evening
It's going to be heavy also. It's 3/4" oakwood plywood.
Good

Do we have 36" rattan flagpoles?
I mean
We can
:^)
@Heinz - MI Good training this weekend borther
We should put together some extra shields
That's probably a good idea.
@I'm Not Sam Hyde thank you for the tip. Yes I read that jpeg about building the shield and basic formations. I was concerned about getting my teeth knocked out to be honest. I'll follow up with these changes. Yeah I'm a little concerned with how wild things are going to get. Should be one hell of a show
No problem bub!
I'll buy a shield
We might have loaners
