Many of the channels where ads run on are not receiving any of the ad money, too

2019-07-27 03:51:12 UTC

Interesting.

"Don't call it a grave. It's the future you chose."

2019-07-27 03:52:10 UTC

This is bigger than just a cultural left-ride divide, it's old media dying and gasping for air

2019-07-27 03:52:50 UTC

They're using their established influence and money that's left from their huge pockets to try to infiltrate modern media platforms like YT

2019-07-27 03:53:26 UTC

There's been research on this, major news networks were pushed to trending almost 100x more often than independent channels that create far more popular content

2019-07-27 03:54:16 UTC

This has been happening since Google bought YT

2019-07-27 03:54:44 UTC

No surprise there, Google is itself the most established platform. It's literally Silicon Valley fighting the rise of the common man.

2019-07-27 03:56:30 UTC

Of course eventually they'll lose because they don't have endlessly deep pockets. But for now they have the upper hand.

2019-07-27 04:01:40 UTC

Right I did some manual testing in lieu of anything else and, not a single video popped up advertising.

2019-07-27 04:02:16 UTC

So it would appear the claim is a true one

2019-07-27 04:02:34 UTC

(why the fuck people would deny free money is beyond me)

2019-07-27 04:03:35 UTC

There were old posts about prageru and shapiro appearing on Contra's video's but that could just be Youtube getting its pound of flesh...

2019-07-27 04:04:20 UTC

Kek.

2019-07-27 04:04:45 UTC

Still, it does go contray to everything known about the youtube algorythm currently. More adverts = more reccomenations, because that would make youtube more money...

2019-07-27 04:11:22 UTC

I don't think Google sees YT as a money maker

2019-07-27 04:14:04 UTC

They see it as an ideological platform first, moneymaker second. That, and they're still of the frankly ludicrous belief that the future of YouTube is in becoming part of hte MSM. Which it's not, by the way—it was the indies that made it a success in the first place,.

2019-07-27 04:14:47 UTC

yep

2019-07-27 04:15:23 UTC

🤡 🌎

2019-07-27 04:16:07 UTC

@Comando maybe Contra didn't like the contracts

2019-07-27 04:19:02 UTC

Doubt that's the reason why you wouldn't get advertising revenue

2019-07-27 04:22:23 UTC

And while clear that google doesn't see Youtube as a profit making entity, they aren't going to say no to mitigating their losses via promoting video's which make them money, more than just views.

2019-07-27 04:24:09 UTC

Afaik Contra does long format videos, and has never liked pushing out many short videos

2019-07-27 04:25:24 UTC

YT doesn't promote such videos very much, whereas Tim Pool has had a steadily growing audience because he went for quantity over quality in the past years

2019-07-27 04:27:10 UTC

You can compare those two channels on Socialblade, TP at least in theory performs much better than Contra

2019-07-27 04:29:12 UTC

If they both had always been monetized, Tim would've made boatloads more money in comparison

2019-07-27 04:36:58 UTC

Tim Pool even released a video a year or so back, contemplating this transition. He knows that's how the monetization works, and it was actually a pretty big gripe of his, because he believes the long form, heavily researched videos are more important, but he needs to live off this to keep doing it, so he set up a second channel for his Opinion Piece content.

2019-07-27 04:38:38 UTC

Yep

Do not forget that these people want you broke, dead, your kids raped and brainwashed, and they think its funny.

2019-07-27 04:58:39 UTC

Keep 'em coming, they're helping our cause

2019-07-27 05:37:30 UTC

I guess the solution to google being accused of political bias when demonetizing people is just to demonetize pretty much everyone, get your patreons or subscribe stars ready.

2019-07-27 09:38:58 UTC

I just totally hate this attitude Rossmann calls out in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jtgAZiLWEk

2019-07-27 09:39:35 UTC

It really isn't limited to batteries, and fear-mongering that they shouldn't be changed because "small percentage" of risk.

2019-07-27 09:41:00 UTC

The people who fear-monger also lobby governments. Like criminalization of changing tires (even though changing tires is mandatory twice a year). We obviously know who lobbies them: certified tire-change "specialists" who'd get lot of customers if car owners weren't allowed to do jack shit of the **most simple of car maintenance**.

2019-07-27 09:43:56 UTC

And yeah, the argument is the same "small percentage": there are a couple of accidents each year caused by a wheel falling off because improper tightening or lack of re-tightening (needed on aluminum alloy rims only) after driving a while. Btw, how does criminalization of tire-change solve that? Re-tightening would still fall on the car owner and the lobbyists already argued that car owner cannot do "complicated" stuff like tightening a bolt.
