Pretty much, just look at their obsession with the ending of nuclear power

2019-08-04 17:53:21 UTC

They're so obsessed with that, they don't even care about the science

2019-08-04 17:53:27 UTC

@Cesare Anasazi neither is German culture. I still am an individualist. I am still anchored in this world to enough to a degree to understand, that I am the product of trillions of actions, uncounted vicotries and mistakes.

2019-08-04 17:53:41 UTC

@ETBrooD oh I know... same with climate change stuff

2019-08-04 17:54:11 UTC

Actions of my ancestors have nothing to do with me. I can respect them if they did good but there's nothing to be proud about them for me.

2019-08-04 17:54:23 UTC

But I don't think this is a uniquely German experience, it's the same here in Austria and many other countries

2019-08-04 17:54:38 UTC

Austria is actually a perfect breeding ground for complete maniacs, I don't know why

2019-08-04 17:54:51 UTC

@ETBrooD "WE MUST DO IT".... when... it's not just useless to tackle, it's impossible to do.
(the impact is minor, I read the literature on that one... the increased output of the sun has more of an impact.)

2019-08-04 17:55:00 UTC

My grandfather fought the Zwentendorf AKW (nuclear power plant) until it was stopped. He was a madman.

2019-08-04 17:55:29 UTC

@ETBrooD oh yeah... especially Vienna... whenever I hear someone came from the university at Vienna, I avoid them.

2019-08-04 17:55:34 UTC

We had a serial bomber, we had a guy who jailed his daughters in his cellar

2019-08-04 17:55:43 UTC

And we produced Hitler

2019-08-04 17:55:59 UTC

A small little country in the center of Europe, looking peaceful af, producing all these nutjobs

2019-08-04 17:56:10 UTC

xD yup

2019-08-04 17:56:40 UTC

@Cesare Anasazi you may delude yourself, but you will not do so to me, man.

2019-08-04 17:56:42 UTC

sorry.

2019-08-04 17:58:04 UTC

Off topic, I actually agree with many objectivist ideas, but I don't think our achievements are largely disconnected from our forefathers. I completely reject that idea.

2019-08-04 17:58:32 UTC

Doesn't mean original sin should be a thing, but to deny that the human experience is not purely individualist seems foreign to me

2019-08-04 17:58:58 UTC

@ETBrooD such a statement is objectively untrue.

2019-08-04 17:59:09 UTC

morally, no. but in any other way.

2019-08-04 17:59:12 UTC

I am not trying to "delude" anyone. I am stating my opinion

2019-08-04 17:59:18 UTC

Which statement?

2019-08-04 17:59:35 UTC

"achievements are largely disconnected from our forefathers"

2019-08-04 18:00:51 UTC

@The Objectivist Dollar then make a statement of opinion, not of fact.

2019-08-04 18:01:20 UTC

Well, illustrate how am I connected to my grandgrandfather who was a baker in russian empire then killed by bolsheviks in USSR

2019-08-04 18:01:51 UTC

Like I said, I disagree with that statement, too

2019-08-04 18:01:54 UTC

you may reject the way your forefathers acted, or disagree, or say that they're morally disconnected from you, but you cannot say, that their actions are disconnected from you.

2019-08-04 18:02:19 UTC

What other connection other than moral, is there

2019-08-04 18:02:26 UTC

We have similar genes, that;s about it

2019-08-04 18:03:04 UTC

that is more than enough.

2019-08-04 18:03:22 UTC

I'm confused

2019-08-04 18:03:31 UTC

Based austria

2019-08-04 18:03:36 UTC

I said I disagree with the statement that our achievements are disconnected from them

2019-08-04 18:03:58 UTC

Austria is good for skiing

2019-08-04 18:03:58 UTC

Genes mean nothing tho

2019-08-04 18:04:09 UTC

what does that even mean

2019-08-04 18:04:12 UTC
2019-08-04 18:04:23 UTC

Uhhh

2019-08-04 18:04:31 UTC

Tell that to a cystic fibrosis patient 🤣

2019-08-04 18:04:33 UTC

if genes meant nothing, why do they decide basically everything?

2019-08-04 18:04:34 UTC

Me and my brother have similar genes. I'm a rich engineer, he's a former drug addict now working as carpender
