Basic policing, until he decided literally no one can leave, and has his turf war with Fontaine

2019-08-03 22:47:59 UTC

Fontaine fakes his death, Ryan Industries absorbs and cannibalizes Fontaine Futuristics, and the city becomes an oligarchy

2019-08-03 22:48:31 UTC

I don't think Rapture is an accurate representation of Objectivism because the main problem in Rapture was that Fontaine created a monopoly on Plasmids that were poorly made however most Objectivists including Ayn Rand herself maintained the idea that Monopolies are impossible to create in a genuine free market and that they are caused by Government Intervention

Watch–Josh Hawley: ‘Elite Consensus’ for ‘Open Markets, Open Borders’ Disregards American Middle Class
> https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/08/03/watch-josh-hawley-elite-consensus-for-open-markets-open-borders-disregards-

2019-08-03 22:49:43 UTC

Ayn Rand also ignored the need of a competitive corporation to grow

2019-08-03 22:49:47 UTC

Besides the thing that destroyed Rapture was the Plasmids made by Ryan and Fontaine however since they are not a real thing if Andrew Ryan's form of Libertarianism was actually tried it couldn't be destroyed in the same way

Guess the communist action is taking effect...

Poll: Less than Half of College Students Think America Is a Superpower
> https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2019/08/03/poll-less-than-half-of-college-students-think-america-is-a-superpower/

2019-08-03 22:51:09 UTC

not in the same way, no, but beyond fictitious genetic superpowers, a strong metaphor for drugs and narcotics can be found

2019-08-03 22:51:16 UTC

And there is no real example of a product like Plasmids that could really cause the same effect in real life, Since they are clearly on a different level to modern drugs

2019-08-03 22:51:43 UTC

not perfectly equivilant, but not too dissimilar

2019-08-03 22:54:23 UTC

his anti-socialist rhetoric was spot on, but those weren't the only people he was referring to when he spat out slurs against the 'parasite'

2019-08-03 22:55:36 UTC

he correctly surmised that the unity of a people bound by a nation state was incompatible with his 'great chain' social construct

2019-08-03 22:56:20 UTC

Well he essentially believed that all people should only be dependent on themselves which is why he opposed the social safety net

2019-08-03 22:56:31 UTC

and though its not explicitly spelled out, it can't be questioned he's a very 'taxation is theft' kinda guy

2019-08-03 22:56:58 UTC

Well in Rapture i don't actually think there were taxes

2019-08-03 22:57:04 UTC

I think he got rid of them

2019-08-03 22:57:08 UTC

'sweat of the brow' and whatnot

2019-08-03 22:58:07 UTC

yeah no, he figured the only required form of economic circulation was employment and consumerism

2019-08-03 22:58:24 UTC

with no oversight of wage or prices whatsoever

2019-08-03 22:59:21 UTC

wait what, what happend to the entire 'free markets help the middle class' narrative?

2019-08-03 22:59:26 UTC

Well he isn't completely wrong economically, Most of the economy can run itself due to the invisible hand of the market

2019-08-03 23:00:19 UTC

true enough, but then there's the inevitable question of who pays for universal requirements, like maintenance, or in this case, oxygen

2019-08-03 23:00:28 UTC

and with who's money

2019-08-03 23:01:01 UTC

*indentured servitude intensifies*

2019-08-03 23:01:06 UTC

Well Ayn Rand supported the idea of voluntary taxation for it, Although i don't know how it would really work practically

2019-08-03 23:01:32 UTC

the planting of Arcadia forest solved the latter problem, with admitance by fee shoring up a tidy profit, but there was also heating the pipes to keep them from freezing and bursting

2019-08-03 23:02:55 UTC

Its the whole idea of self interest again though, The idea is that people would support these projects like maintenance with their own money because it is in their own self interest to have them done

2019-08-03 23:03:38 UTC

ofcourse, as far as Rand was concerned, the right people were rational and logical, obviously they'd pay for that

2019-08-03 23:03:57 UTC

Presumably the same would be expected to occur with Hospitals and Infrastructure and whatnot

2019-08-03 23:04:04 UTC

until you run into people who are more convinced its in their best interest to invest that money in their other pursuits instead of a common project

2019-08-03 23:05:20 UTC

afterall, what assurance can anyone, fictional or real, give that self-interest won't evolve into petty self-indulgeance if left unchecked

2019-08-03 23:05:57 UTC

To be fair though it would work to an extent in Rapture because if your business started flooding or running out of oxygen for example it would be in your interest to use your money to fix it, I think it all comes down to your opinion on Human Nature

2019-08-03 23:05:57 UTC

would not happen as these people would be rational to a fault

2019-08-03 23:06:41 UTC

if it happened in a business that'd be a no brainer, not what I was referring to

2019-08-03 23:06:46 UTC

how about a transit tunnel

2019-08-03 23:07:00 UTC

or one of the hundreds of conntecting tubes

2019-08-03 23:07:19 UTC

bathyspheres?

2019-08-03 23:07:41 UTC

Again it would be the idea of self interest because it would effect Business workers and owners since it could make it harder to get to and from your business or home

2019-08-03 23:08:41 UTC

The theory is that everyone would be rational enough to know what things they needed to collectively fund for the interest of everyone

2019-08-03 23:09:24 UTC

everyone, more likely themselves though

2019-08-03 23:09:27 UTC

but then you have to acknowledge a collective good, in an environment created based purely on pure individual innovation
