If you parry with a dual edged blade, it either has to be ludicrously flexible, and therefore easily dulled, or it has to be thick enough to take the blow. Single edges became the majority of swords in Europe, quite quickly

Which is left and which is right @Weez

2019-08-25 21:41:38 UTC

@Nahkasetä Right is match, left is disregard

2019-08-25 21:41:56 UTC

I prefer dual edged, but they're much harder to temper

2019-08-25 21:42:08 UTC

And they are more brittle

2019-08-25 21:42:12 UTC

arming sword

2019-08-25 21:42:13 UTC

I mean it kinda depends on what you're looking for @Weez

2019-08-25 21:42:22 UTC

2019-08-25 21:42:28 UTC

2019-08-25 21:42:29 UTC

gladius

2019-08-25 21:42:33 UTC

@Reprehensibletrash Weren't dual edged swords a LOT more common in Europe?

2019-08-25 21:42:38 UTC

yes

2019-08-25 21:42:40 UTC

I'll swipe left

2019-08-25 21:42:45 UTC

Trotsky would go right

2019-08-25 21:42:45 UTC

Did the Aztecs have some kind of sword with a jade blade?

2019-08-25 21:42:46 UTC

For sure

2019-08-25 21:42:46 UTC

depends which part, but generally yes

2019-08-25 21:42:48 UTC

rapier

2019-08-25 21:42:49 UTC

Or was it obsidian?

2019-08-25 21:42:56 UTC

Over all history, yes. Anytime recently, no

2019-08-25 21:42:57 UTC

rapiers suck in actual combat

2019-08-25 21:43:03 UTC

estoc

2019-08-25 21:43:05 UTC

this isn't Fire Emblem

2019-08-25 21:43:07 UTC

@Edelgard von Hresvelg They're amazing in duels

2019-08-25 21:43:08 UTC

rapiers do not suck

2019-08-25 21:43:14 UTC

The last used swords were all curved, aside from rapers

2019-08-25 21:43:16 UTC

not in actual engagements

2019-08-25 21:43:23 UTC

Which don't deserve their real name tbh

2019-08-25 21:43:29 UTC

On a battlefield, yeah rapiers weren't used but they were great dueling weapons

2019-08-25 21:43:29 UTC

bastar sword

2019-08-25 21:43:36 UTC

rapiers and estocs were the top tier swords just before swords were phased out of real combat

2019-08-25 21:43:54 UTC

What about a cutlass?
