figured that I'd find the small handfull of normal people here who interact with twitter (I ditched the site at least a year ago)

2019-08-28 07:35:54 UTC

I never had a Twitter account because i'd be banned in short order

2019-08-28 07:36:02 UTC

took me ten minutes to transition the anchor was in place before the second plane hit

2019-08-28 07:36:06 UTC

Also, Twitter is cancer, wtf are people thinking?

2019-08-28 07:37:20 UTC

I'm working with the hypothesis that the vast majority of twitter's userbase are the daughters of the whiney conservative housewives of yesteryear/ ie they take after their mothers just without the hosewife part.

2019-08-28 07:37:34 UTC

I don't think that's true

2019-08-28 07:37:43 UTC

It doesn't explain the far-leftist bias

2019-08-28 07:38:20 UTC

I would, without much thinking, suggest it's mostly narcissists, and that's why it has a left-wing and celebrity bias

2019-08-28 07:39:11 UTC

Twitter fulfills a pathological need in them for attention

2019-08-28 07:39:24 UTC
2019-08-28 07:39:34 UTC

I don't raise people on pedestals

2019-08-28 07:40:15 UTC

I contend it's an authortarian bias. the daughters of the right wing housewives wanting to censor sinfull things just became leftists but never shook their mother's bad habits of wanting to censor things.

2019-08-28 07:40:30 UTC

romans : we hate kings
also romans : bruh what about emperors

2019-08-28 07:40:54 UTC

There is some general truth in one generation tending to rebel against the extremities of their parents

2019-08-28 07:41:16 UTC

But I would warn against making the assumption they're all children of conservatives

2019-08-28 07:42:19 UTC

I would also suggest there is a core of far-leftists driving the thing, and most terrified normies who go along with it because they're scared of being outed as non-virtuous

2019-08-28 07:42:51 UTC

I'm looking for data on that it's a hypothesis that would explain a lot. a good place to start is just ascertaining if they hate their mothers and why. unfortunately data's a bit sparse (net searches yielded unrelated gibberish)

2019-08-28 07:43:25 UTC

Short of large surveys, I don't know what options you've got

2019-08-28 07:44:48 UTC

since I just formulated a means to try and test for this hypothesis a grand total of 3 hours ago I haven't gotten to robust on it yet. stage 2 is posting on discord looking something.

2019-08-28 07:45:37 UTC

You wouldn't even be in a position to test this hypothecy with a survey

2019-08-28 07:47:21 UTC

if twitter wasn't a hole I'd just survey twitter directly.

2019-08-28 07:47:37 UTC

internet is basically an irl equivalent of wh40k warp

2019-08-28 07:47:46 UTC

Even that comes with issues - it's a social media platform - how do you target the survbey to get a representativ sample?

2019-08-28 07:48:12 UTC

IT'd be like Drudgereport running a poll on their webpage - you're going to get a massively skewed participant set

2019-08-28 07:48:28 UTC

find the hashtags infested with blue checkmarks.

2019-08-28 07:48:43 UTC

So you'd target leftists deliberately?

2019-08-28 07:49:38 UTC

that's totally not bias

2019-08-28 07:49:39 UTC

<:poggers:583775485620781087>

2019-08-28 07:49:43 UTC

yes that's who I'm after. they're the subject of the research it's a theory about them in particular and they're the majority of twitter's active userbase.

2019-08-28 07:50:12 UTC

I don't think that's true

2019-08-28 07:50:19 UTC

Twitter is a global brand

2019-08-28 07:50:23 UTC

For the purposes of your study, define “leftist”.

2019-08-28 07:50:30 UTC

They might be the majority of twitters active userbase in the USA

2019-08-28 07:50:45 UTC

And that may be linked to age - leftists tend to be younger

2019-08-28 07:51:25 UTC

People tend to shift right over time as they gain wisdom and their priorities/responsibilities change

2019-08-28 07:51:46 UTC

what does right even mean

2019-08-28 07:51:59 UTC

is it right to be wrong or is it wrong to be right

2019-08-28 07:52:02 UTC

<:cuckertarlson:462285973724856320>

2019-08-28 07:52:34 UTC

I've toyed with the idea that "right wing" as an idea technically doesn't exist and only exists as an antonym to "leftist"

2019-08-28 07:52:45 UTC

Alienated, for the purposes of this conversation we can divide the population into "leftists", "the right", and "centrists/normies"

2019-08-28 07:53:01 UTC

It's impoosibly broad as the leftists use it, Harazuy
