The power of unions is the power to strike. If you strike against a private company, you’re asking for a pay rise from that companies owner. That’s fine. The company owner has options: a) Let them quit, b) hope they cave in or c) cave in yourself. And that’s fine too. It’s up to the owner to react.

I don’t have the power to bargain with you, all I can do is vote. So if you work for the government and want a fucking pay rise, lobby for it. The politicians can campaign on it, and I can either vote them in or vote against them.

It depends on how the government empowers unions.
A private sector union shouldn’t even be recognized by the government. It should be entirely between an employer and their employees.
But lefties don’t agree with that. Over time they legislated for legal powers. In some parts of the world companies have to keep paying employees even if they’re striking. It’s fkn bananas.

If the government has nothing to do with unions, private sector unions are fine. It’s just folks bargaining. Go nuts.
