I'm surprised there's not more politicians following Trump's example in that regard
His Andrew Neil interview was shocking, he didn't understand the government creating bonds added to national debt.
It's been a massive success for Trump and made him more personable to people I think
I always thought of Corbyn as a Zealot but he just came across as dumb on that interview.
intentional or otherwise, the jabs he takes at people and the occasional meme makes him feel more like an everyman, despite the fact he's obviously a much higher class than most, financially
corbyn seems to have a big issue with interviews where he gets pressured. The one that always comes to mind is how he couldn't give a straight answer on MAD
that combined with the people he calls friends makes it look like if he ever did become prime minister, our security would be a disaster
Trump is going into 2020 still having his "outsider" cred even though he's the incumbent. That's amazing.
Yeah he was once flying over Atlantic city with some Russian models, someone stated only white Trash go there, the model asked what white trash was and Trump said "Like me but poor"
when it comes down to it, I think people are just more interested in what Trump does and less what he says, while it's entertaining it's not important until it interferes with what he's trying to accomplish
Most of the outrage is from what he said when his policies are not much different than other presidents. People keep thinking that if they just get their ideal candidate the whole system will change but the system is way too powerful.
Regardless of whether people support or hate Trump, I hope one of the bigger takeaways of his presidencies is to pick your president with confidence they'll do what they say they'll do, or at least make the effort to do as much as possible. For their own dignity if nothing else. If I remember right Trump is the president that has achieved the most of his campaign promises?
rather than taking the tribal route, going for the one less likely to lie to your face about what their goals are
one thing I wish we had more of in the UK, given the amount of politicians that claimed to be leavers only to be remain once elected
I don't know if he has achieved most of his campaign promises, I know Trudeau has achieved more campaign promises than other Canadian PMs
Admittedly I only remember hearing this years ago, so I don't know how accurate that ended up being for Trump, at the very least he seems more active in actually doing things, or it comes across that way compared to his recent predecessors
I mean, when most of your promises involve spending money, sure, Trudeau's got it in the bag.
still amazes me that ultra woke canada voted for him after all the blackface scandals, just shows the power of the tribe I suppose
Yeah most of their outrage with racism is just a tactic to take down their opponents
It shows how bullshit the left's outrage is over stuff like blackface.
I do have to agree there, given how often people that complain about how morally bad something is, only to engage in it themselves
Andrew Cuomo said nigger on the radio, and do you see people asking for his head on a pike?
At least he didn't say Fedo
Fredo
I can't wait till we reach a point in time where we're past the victimhood thing and can all poke fun at each other again
you still can, you just have to stand by it
What I wonder is if the backlash will be we go towards more freedom or right wing Authoritarianism
saying "sorry" for jokes is conceding that you were wrong
very true, is easier when there's less they can target, makes it all the more important when people with louder voices can do it and show how weak the outrage actually is
absolutely, given I have a big love for comedy I don't apologise for jokes just because someone is offended by them. I obviously don't go out of my way to be malicious, I just stand by my own intent, they're the ones choosing to be offended by it at that point
the world seems to have forgotten Hitchens' answer to "I am offended!"
"so what?"
I'd like to hope for freedom, but with the pushing for words being violence, it's going to need to be backlash against more than edgy jokes
When I was younger if someone got actually offended by something that only made it funnier. If someone said something you didn't like you'd hide it otherwise they'd only ramp it up.
That's more or less what I say when someone is offended, it's not my problem if the mean words hurt you
the offense can often be the biggest source of humour in a joke
Yeah racial jokes wouldn't be funny if there was no controversy.
it's like they don't realise the more they take offense at every little thing, the greater the supply of these kinds of jokes to counter them
because people are going to find them ridiculous and soft
Is everyone here new? Are there other rooms or something you are admitted into? what are all those blank recordings?
