The thing is I do think they are allowed to basically get away with anything because you know Facebook literally copies your contact list straight from your phone and then sells that data

Its why I have all my mates work buddies suddenly showing up in my Facebook recommended tab because their numbers are in my mates phone and his in mine

And they have facebook accounts on their phones not even connected with the number or anything like twitter that requires a phone number

but if you allow them to search in your contacts, well, you claim it's not private and can use it to ameliorate their algorithm

You accept by accepting the popup that comes before you install the app and the TOS and other disclaimers

You go to court and they just say well there is a disclaimer and you CHOOSE to use it despite knowing what it'd do

you know the "Do you allow this app to access your contacts etc"
