and now that the very best estimate is about 12 billion by 2100, I have no idea of it's a good or bad thing

2019-11-18 08:38:28 UTC

youd have to compare how it was "calculated" wouldnt you

2019-11-18 08:38:44 UTC

that's true

2019-11-18 08:40:37 UTC

About the same way windows calculates estimated time when copying files

2019-11-18 08:41:49 UTC

This is from a UN written article from back in 2014 (revised until -2019)

Over population is a meme

2019-11-18 08:51:52 UTC

We can easily make food for billions more

2019-11-18 08:53:28 UTC

Food was never the question

2019-11-18 08:53:53 UTC

It was quality/purpose/usefulness of a life produced

2019-11-18 08:54:22 UTC

I don't think we as a society can use a major class of poor people, even if we can feed them

2019-11-18 08:56:36 UTC

Unless you turn them into disposable work slaves

2019-11-18 08:56:45 UTC

Like hive cities in 40k

2019-11-18 08:58:05 UTC

@ryvergate we can, it just requires TPTB to stop preventing things that are useful and helpful. Take paypal donations as an example. putting a donate link next to the person's video on youtube would make creators' lives a whole lot simpler. It's not done though, because of greed.

2019-11-18 09:03:31 UTC

Or we get rid of the mindset of living to work

2019-11-18 09:03:47 UTC

And have a mindset of pursuing life however that means for you

2019-11-18 09:03:59 UTC

nah that doesn't work

2019-11-18 09:04:06 UTC

We have the technology to replace huge amounts of our current work force

2019-11-18 09:04:10 UTC

you'd need to force people into positions

2019-11-18 09:04:20 UTC

No ones tried it ralin

2019-11-18 09:04:25 UTC

Not in the history of humanity

2019-11-18 09:04:44 UTC

Have we had the capability to replace almost the entire workforce with tech

2019-11-18 09:05:05 UTC

Eventually “live to work” will have to go I think

2019-11-18 09:05:25 UTC

Or what? We create meaningless jobs to keep people occupied?

2019-11-18 09:05:35 UTC

What’s the point in that

2019-11-18 09:06:05 UTC

@PureEvilPie oh I agree, but the future requires insane taxes on big biz that will never happen

2019-11-18 09:06:21 UTC

they will replace workers with machines and save money

2019-11-18 09:06:40 UTC

and instead of offsetting the damage to economy and jobs, they will keep the profit

2019-11-18 09:06:45 UTC

Ya, it will hard and crazy

2019-11-18 09:06:47 UTC

Overpopulation is a problem of inefficiency within urban environments

2019-11-18 09:06:49 UTC

Equally as likely is mass extermination I think

2019-11-18 09:06:58 UTC

Urbanites are usually the only ones that complain about overpopulation.

2019-11-18 09:06:59 UTC

Who knows what the future companies will do

2019-11-18 09:07:33 UTC

>Or what? We create meaningless jobs to keep people occupied?

You ever heard the word bureaucracy?

2019-11-18 09:07:45 UTC

But on a much larger scale

2019-11-18 09:07:54 UTC

I get what you mean though

2019-11-18 09:08:06 UTC

I think UBI will have to become a thing

2019-11-18 09:08:26 UTC

Will be cheaper than a lot of these bureaucratic roles lol

2019-11-18 09:08:57 UTC

@Xaverius bureaucracy can work if each individual tier of support isn't NPC'd. have to have a live person to know when to skip to the end and get something done quickly

2019-11-18 09:09:53 UTC

like splitting oneself off into millions of copies

2019-11-18 09:10:04 UTC

the copies don't know what the others are doing, but they are all equally skilled
