Freedom of religion is enshrined in our law. Christianity has been civilized in this country. I call it 'The Serrano Test' after Andres Serrano who took a photo of a crucifix submerged in urine he called 'Piss Christ'. When it was revealed that he had received NEA money for this "art" there was a public outcry and NEA funding was reduced over the scandal. If at some point 'Piss Mohamed' appears in the Stux Gallery and the reaction of Muslims is to write their congressmen than Islam too will have become a civilized religion.

Y'know socialism and capitalism are not mutually exclusive, right? Firefighters, police departments, social security, et cetera... these are all socialist elements of our society. They are also essential to society. What the vast majority of socialists want is really not as anathema to capitalistic society as you seem to think.

Social democracy, yes. The socialists want socialism, though, which doesn't work.

I don't think many people want that at all. No doubt there are some extremists, of course, but even Bernie Sanders is a _Democratic_ Socialist. It's pretty much just "Let's not charge 90 000 dollars per cancer treatment."

Democratic socialism is just socialism with a one-time democracy veneer. That's the difference between it and social democracy—once you strip off the veneer, socialism takes over.

True, true, but I think we can all agree that the current healthcare system is too capitalistic. People often die from curable diseases under it, simply because medical treatment is too expensive.

There is a balance to be struck, but we cannot leave the American healthcare system as profit-over-care as it is. That's what I believe.

Warren's proposed foreign policy strategy is fucking inept, though.

If anyone who said this kept it to fire fighters and police I may have some faith in 'democratic socialism'. But we know from experience they just want more and more until it is everything. It's not a slippery slope 'fallacy' when Karl Marx is on top of a hill coated with KY holding a toboggan....
